Why do we want to solve this problem?

Urban traffic congestion is a worldwide problem. Especially in a country with rapid urbanization in China, traffic is facing increasingly severe pressures and challenges. The development and application of technologies such as deep reinforcement learning, big data and cloud computing have made AI participation in urban traffic management become a reality, but there are still many spaces that can be explored and improved.

Traffic Signal Control Competition 2019, held by The Pennsylvania State University, Apex Lab from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tianrang Inc., and Intel Inc., is aiming to let AI researchers and the public in the world pay attention to urban traffic problems and explore the potential of AI.
